Bimetallic strip: Brass/invar strip curves when heated. Invar is a steel-like alloy of nickel and iron containing 36% nickel. It is employed in the manufacture of precision instruments because of its low coefficient of expansion. The bimetallic strip is brass on one side, bonded to Invar on the other side. The strip is straight at room temperature, and curves when heated. TEMPERATURE AND EXPANSION.
