Iron Spheres coupled with weak Spring. The behavior of two coupled harmonic oscillators may be shown with a pair of heavy iron spheres coupled with a weak spring. With the two suspensions tuned to the same frequency, couple the spheres with the spring to demonstrate the two normal modes. One in which they oscillate in phase, and one in which they oscillate 180 degrees out of phase.
